"The soul has no secret that
the behavior does not reveal." Lao- Tzu
Nowadays, conventional medicine still tends to confuse the symptom with
the illness itself. This would be the same as confusing the screen with the
projector. Just in the same way that the screen in a movie theatre can only
show the images coming from the projector, our body is where our awareness
projects itself. All the processes and changes in our awareness manifest
themselves in our bodies as symptoms.
The body can manifest many different symptoms, all of which are an expression
of the process we call illness. Illnesses, as we have mentioned, have their
origin in the patient's consciousness.
Etymologically, the word symptom means "coincidence." Any
symptom, be it of a stroke or something else, coincides perfectly with the
current situation the person is living in that moment.
Each symptom then, carries information, a message that conveys the state
of our soul. It indicates that we have a problem, something is not working we
have a deficiency.
When consciousness is in a state of harmony, the disease has no reason to
exist and does not manifest itself.
In order to develop a symptom, I must have had an emotional impact:
Each physical symptom has been preceded by a thought, a feeling, a
negative belief, something that made me feel bad, something I could not cope
with, an unresolved issue and these could be related to fear, lack of
affection, resentment, repressed violence, irresponsibility or lack of
awareness.
Therefore, if we learn to recognize the symptoms and interpret them, we
will fully realize that they always speak of us, of our interior.
Going back to the previous example, we can say then, that it is
impossible to change the content of the movie by trying to fix the screen.
The screen, as the symptom, is only the effect of an invisible cause. It
shows us the script, the photography and the actors, but if we wish to change
something we don't like about the movie, we must not go to the screen but to
the filmstrip and the projector.
The symptom uses a personalized language to point out what is out of
balance within our consciousness.
The symptom points out exactly what excesses or shortages we have in our
lives, what mistakes we are making and what we need to do to return to that
state of balance called health.
It would be ridiculous to be angry at the symptom or to try to suppress
it since what we need to eliminate is the cause and not the symptom.
Therefore, it is very important to be able to distinguish between disease
(on the consciousness plane) and the symptom (physical plane, biological
plane).
When we understand the difference, our attitude, and our relationship to
illnesses, changes rapidly.
We no longer consider the symptom as a nuisance and as an enemy that
needs to be destroyed as soon as possible.
We discover that the symptom is an ally, a guide that can help us find
what we are missing or what we need to do so that we can then overcome the
illness.
